Welcome to our website and to Christ Church Cathedral, and please know that whoever you are and wherever you are on your faith journey, you will be welcomed and accepted here. Jesus welcomed and invited all, and we hope our welcome approaches the width of the loving embrace of God for each of us.
What you will find in our community on Sunday morning is worship using a liturgy following the Book of Common Prayer. The Prayer Book is used in most Episcopal and Anglican churches to guide our liturgy and help us as a community to worship together. We believe in the importance of our time together in prayer, and invite you, if nothing else, to come and pray with us on Sunday morning. Our 8 a.m. service has no music, and our 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Spanish service have hymns. We are all invited to join in singing At worship, we hear lessons from the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament, and a sermon is given by one of the staff. Every week we offer prayers and people are encouraged to add their own petitions to the prayers of the people. Every Sunday we celebrate the Holy Communion at the altar, and we believe that Jesus is present in our communion. We invite all people to share in the Holy Communion for we believe that Jesus did the same. On Sundays a time of fellowship follows the 10 a.m. and 12:15 Spanish services, and all are invited to join. Most of the year a forum follows the 10 a.m. service too.
The Cathedral is the spiritual and pastoral home for many people, and we invite you to come to us if you are in struggle, pain, doubt, or fear, or if there is any pastoral matter you would like to discuss in confidence with someone who can listen and offer prayer and support. We invite those who are curious about God or Jesus Christ or faith in general to approach us for a conversation. You will find our approach both open and helpful, and perhaps we can help guide you along the path where God is inviting you to go. Our programs and activities are designed to help us grow spiritually, feed our intellectual curiosity, and give back to the community through opportunities of service.
Membership in the Cathedral is not a requisite to participating and attending on a regular basis. Our members are those who have come here regularly, in some cases since they were children, who have decided that this is where they feel settled and would like to put down spiritual roots to grow. Membership in the Cathedral makes it easier for a person to be engaged with the actions of the community and in the guidance of the community's ministries. Speak with a member of the clergy if you would like to find out more about becoming a member.
A little about diversity. We are diverse in our appearance and belief. Christ Church Cathedral has members from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia, and we have members representing the LGBTQ community. We are open and affirming. Our strength is not in a unity of thought or background, and we, like all communities, struggle to keep communicating directly and clearly in love. We like that we are diverse.
We also want to keep growing and evolving in faith and fellowship and invite you to visit any time, to contact us with questions or to request prayers, and to reach out to us for any reason at all.
May God bless you.
